St. Michael’s Parish Council (Miramichi)

Dec 5, 2022 | Spotlight

In October, St. Michael’s Parish Council (Miramichi, NB) held a community-wide sock drive called “SOCKTOBER”. They collected donations of warm winter socks for the vulnerable. Over 18 Christian churches in the Miramichi area and 11 car dealerships were contacted and asked if they would like to join in this project. They were overjoyed to be included.

They also received socks from the Miramichi Lady golfers and the Newcastle Business Association. The Chatham Rotary presented them with a generous donation to buy socks.

Council Member Paula Trueman and Parish Council President Linda Morris were the co-ordinators. All socks donated were collected on October 31st and the sorting of men’s, women’s and children’s sock began. When the sorting was done they had 7,222 pairs of socks to donate! The generosity of the Miramichi is so amazing! On November 20th, the socks were prepared to be delivered to 24 local organizations who support the vulnerable and/or homeless.

Included are pictures of St Michael’s Basilica on packaging day and the tables filled with socks ready to be delivered.

By warming the “soles” of others, they have warmed their hearts!
