Saturday Tours at Annual National Convention

Aug 16, 2022 | Spotlight, Uncategorized

The Grand Okanagan Resort by Mariott is alive with excitement as members and guests gather to attend the 102nd national convention in beautiful Kelowna, BC. Old friendships were renewed and first time participants were welcomed.

On Saturday, two tours were offered. Attendees on the historic O’Keefe Ranch and Davison Orchards tour were treated to the beautiful rolling hills and lakes as they travelled to Vernon.

Arriving at the Davison Orchards, a family owned business since 1933, a guided tractor train ride was provided. Tom Davison spoke about the evolution of the farm, their numerous fruit crops, and their unique irrigation system. Other highlights of this trip included the fresh-pressed apple juice, visiting the stores full of home-made products, and viewing historic farming equipment.

At the historic O’Keefe Ranch, beautiful lunches, prepared by League members of the Saint Joseph’s council in Armstrong were enjoyed. Participants experienced the 1800s as they strolled through numerous preserved buildings, which include a Catholic Church, blacksmith shop, stage coach shop, and a general store with a post office. Knowledgeable guides and photos revealed a family history supported by the indigenous community.

The Wicked Wine tour attendees were truly invited to “Rejoice in the Vineyard of the Lord” as they toured several wineries, tasting whites, reds, and bubbly wines. The group was split into two, with one group heading to West Kelowna and the other heading east. The well-informed guides entertained attendees with stories and information about the soil and grapes used in the wine-making process. The wine was enjoyed over beautiful views of Okanagan Lake. Attendees were able to purchase bottles of the wonderful wine, along with other mementos.
