Whereas, The Criminal Code of Canada contains provisions regarding hate propaganda and assembly, and corrupting morals, and

Whereas, Some music lyrics meet the definition of corrupting morals as defined in Section 163 of the Criminal Code of Canada, in that they represent “the undue exploitation of sex, coupled with crime, horror, cruelty and violence”, therefore be it

Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada in 80th annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government to enforce the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada concerning ‘Public Incitement of Hatred’ and ‘Corrupting Morals’, to restrict the production, distribution, and/or importation of music which offends these provisions.

Detailed Action Plan

  • Contact your provincial minister of justice expressing your concerns regarding music lyrics which corrupt morals and promote hate propaganda.
  • Encourage members to monitor the music lyrics that your children/grandchildren are listening to.
  • Contact or write letters to radio and TV stations, music stores and music producers expressing your concerns regarding music lyrics which corrupt morals and promote hate propaganda.
