Resolution 1998.04 Increase in Funding for Health Research

Whereas, the Medical Research Council of Canada is the major federal agency responsible for funding biomedical research in Canada; and

Whereas, the 1998 federal budget allocation of an additional 134 million dollars to the Medical Research Council of Canada over the next three years will lock it into 1994/95 funding levels in the year 2001; therefore, be it

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 78th annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government to increase funding to the Medical Research Council of Canada to bring Canada’s investment in health research in line with the majority of other G8 countries.
