Resolution 1998.02 Deviant Sex Establishments/Businesses

Whereas, venues for deviant sexual behaviour are being established in our communities; and

Whereas, the current bawdy-house laws in the Criminal Code of Canada are not specific enough and court cases against such establishment/businesses can be dismissed because they are judged to be within the community standards of tolerance; therefore be it

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 78th annual national convention assembled, urge its members to:

  • become aware of the current bawdy-house laws in the Criminal Code of Canada
  • become active in establishing acceptable standards of tolerance in their own communities, particularly in regard to deviant sex establishments/businesses
  • take action necessary to make these standards known to their municipal authorities
  • contact municipal authorities regarding cases of non-compliance to the community standards.
