Resolution 1996.06: Women’s Heart Disease and Stroke

Whereas, most women are not aware of the serious threat of heart disease and stroke because the symptoms in women are vague and the early warning signs are easily ignored; and

Whereas, a majority of women have at least one of the following risk factors for heart disease and stroke, such as:

  • smoking
  • overweight (obesity)
  • high blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • sedentary lifestyle
  • elevated cholesterol
  • menopause
  • family history;┬átherefore, be it

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 76th annual national convention assembled, urge Catholic Women’s League councils to assist members:

  • to become better educated about the risk factors for heart disease and stroke; and
  • to be more responsible for their own health by developing a healthy lifestyle; and be it further

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 76th annual national convention assembled, recommends that councils approach public health authorities to request awareness programs on women’s heart disease and stroke.
