Resolution 1994.04: Prescription and Non-Prescription Drug Awareness: Knowledge, The Best Medicine

Whereas, it is essential that every person, especially the elderly, the infirm and their caregivers, know all the prescription and non-prescription drugs being taken and/or administered; and

Whereas, The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in Resolution 91.2 ‘Over-Medication of the Elderly’, addressed our concerns with regard to the use of prescription and non-prescription drugs; and

Whereas, some doctors do not have time to counsel personally their patients who are taking prescription and non-prescription drugs; therefore, be it

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 74th annual national convention assembled, urge parish councils to present an information program to assist members in the proper use, side-effects and safe storage of all prescription and non-prescription drugs; and be it further

Resolved, that the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 74th annual national convention assembled, urge all members: to question their doctors and pharmacists so that they understand the effects of all prescription and non-prescription drugs they or their family members are taking; and to compile a personal record of all medications being taken.
