President’s Outings — July 2022
The June calendar had a variety of events to attend. To my great disappointment, testing positive for COVID-19 eliminated my ability to be at the Manitoba and Saskatchewan provincial conventions as planned. Then later in the month, an outdoor praying of the rosary in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day at Government House in Edmonton, Alberta prevented my participation due to a thunderstorm. But, on Sunday, April 26th, a beautiful warm sunny day, my drive to Pickardville, Alberta, for St. Benoit Parish Council’s 60th anniversary was so welcome. The council of 17 members was proud to have two of its charter members in attendance. A feast of a potluck and program recalling numerous historic events rounded out the celebration. One of the charter members was Life Member Doreen Lecky, who, in 1990, won the national flag design contest. That flag remains integral to the League’s history and is used regularly.
The annual Strawberry Tea at my parish council, St. Joseph’s Basilica in Edmonton, was a joyous occasion for the large gathering, which included guests from another parish council and those contemplating being members.
