Our Lady of The Assumption Parish Council, Edmonton

Apr 28, 2022 | Spotlight

Our Lady of The Assumption Parish Council (Edmonton) and Assumption Catholic Church (Edmonton) led four Red Sand Prayer Services at weekend masses as an I’m Worth It Now (IWIN) human trafficking awareness campaign. IWIN, a CWL-partnered initiative, works with human trafficking investigators and wrap-around programs at RESET Society of Calgary, Hope Restored Canada (Saskatoon) and CEASE (Centre to End All Exploitation) Edmonton. IWIN provides backpacks to survivors entering such programs, prayer warriors and awareness campaigns.

Parishioners from all masses joined the League in prayer and placed red sand in the sidewalk cracks—a symbol meant to remind people that they cannot walk over the most marginalized people in their community—those who fall through the metaphoric cracks. Red is symbolic of Jesus’ blood poured out for all. The parish council and its members donated $600.00 towards six backpacks and eight prayer warriors for the Edmonton backpack launch.
