New and Revised League Position Papers

Aug 20, 2024 | In the News, Media, News Releases

Important news! There are new and revised League position papers for 2024. The position paper, “Matrimony and Same-sex Unions” has been revised to make it current with the latest Vatican document and statements on the blessing of individuals in same-sex relationships and a new position paper, “Human Trafficking,” has been developed.

A position paper formally defines the League’s position or stance on a topic or issue, providing important information for members and the public. It gives readers a summary of the dimensions of the topic or issue from the League’s perspective. The position statement reflects a belief statement, ensuring that the principles that underpin the organization’s purpose, mission and Objects are represented. Position papers are written in response to a current topic or issue of concern to the League, the adoption of some resolutions, correspondence by the national president or as a response by the League to a position or plan of action put forward by another organization, such as the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. Position papers may also be warranted in response to national or international legislation.

Please pass the news about the League position papers on to all members so they are aware of these important resource documents and encourage them to translate them into action.

“Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning” (Maya Angelou).
