Communique #14 – Communications
National Chairperson of Communications Doreen Gowans, June 24, 2020.
Dear sisters in the League and Bishop Jensen,
The Catholic Women’s League Online Speakers Series – August 10-14, 2020
It has been brought to my attention that many members are unaware that National President Anne-Marie Gorman has arranged an online Summer Speakers Series, a focus on Care for Our Common Home, Women in the Church, and the League of the Future. Therefore, I request help from each of you to spread the word. Actions speak louder than words, so please hurry and share the information on this series with diocesan and parish councils to encourage members to register online. Be creative in getting this message out!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members do not have the privilege to meet in convention to listen to excellent speakers and be educated, enlightened and inspired. However, the five presenters have kindly agreed to live stream their presentations. The presentations are free; however, please encourage members to donate to the League’s National Bursary Fund if they find the presentations valuable.
Please advise members that to take part, they must register by going to the national website, cwl.ca and click on “Summer Speaker Series Registration,” found under “Quick Links.” Each speaker and presentation is listed by date and time. Underneath the speaker’s information, members should click on the word “Registration” (in bold text) and fill in their information. Once completed and submitted, the member will receive a confirmation of their registration via e-mail. Those wishing to attend must register for each speaker separately. Spaces are going fast, so please ensure all your members are made aware of this awesome opportunity.
Keeping in mind social distancing and the preferred number of registrants, some councils may wish to have a coffee party in their parish community. If your parish priest and provincial health guidelines allow for this type of gathering, I think it would be nice to get together with a few League sisters to watch one or more presentations. However, each person can also take advantage by watching in the comfort of her own home. If you have a newer television (including an HDMI output and an HDMI cable), you may be able to display the presentation from a laptop onto a widescreen television. That might be fun!
