Communique #14 – Christian Family Life
National Chairperson of Christian Family Life Pat Deppiesse, March 23, 2021
Pope Francis has proclaimed March 19, 2021 to June 26, 2022 as the Year “Amoris Laetitia Family.”
“The beauty of this mutual, gratuitous gift, the joy which comes from a life that is born and the loving care of all family members—from toddlers to seniors—are just a few of the fruits which make the response to the vocation of the family unique and irreplaceable”, both for the Church and for society as a whole.” (Amoris laetitia)
What a wonderful guide, example, and intercessor Catholics have in blessed St. Joseph, patron of families, of fathers, of Canada, and of the universal church. The church is the “family of families,” and not only is St. Joseph its guardian, but he is the guardian of your family, your greatest treasure.
From the Novena to St. Joseph: When Mary was pregnant with Jesus, Joseph did not abandon her or shame her. Instead, he stood by her side and defended the life she carried, Jesus Christ. He protected Jesus when He was the most vulnerable—when He was an unborn baby. We are all called to do the same—to protect and defend the sanctity of every human life.
Enclosed is an invitation to begin the Amoris Laetitia family year by joining a webinar hosted by the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO). The webinar, “Abuse Prevention: Family and School,” will be held on Tuesday, March 30th at 8:30 a.m. (EDT). The one-hour webinar includes three good speakers. Chairpersons are requested to spread the invitation as widely as possible—it is for men too! I urge you to join me. There is no charge to register, and WUCWO will send your registration confirmation immediately following your registration, along with information on how to join them. To register, visit wucwo.org/index.php/en/training/formation/1648-webinars-on-the-prevention-of-child-abuse-march-29-and-30-2021. Please distribute this communique to your diocesan counterparts and encourage them to forward it to parish councils. The League would like as many members as possible to attend.
I am diligently reading the results of the Christian family life annual reports. I am overwhelmed by how members have rallied during this pandemic, performing so many wonderful acts of kindness and prayers for families and others.
God bless you all and keep you safe.
