Communique #11 – Communications
National Chairperson of Communications Doreen Gowans, April 20, 2020.
On this Sunday, the second Sunday of Easter known as Divine Mercy Sunday, I prayed you were staying healthy in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, and spiritually enriched as Catholics have just completed 40 days of Lent and are enjoying the joy of the Easter season.
The Catholic Register, April 5, 2020, page eight: Love and Mercy: Faustina, a film depicting the story of St. Faustina is available from April 5th for 30 days only at FanForceTV.com. I watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed her story and how the devotion to Divine Mercy came into being. Please encourage members to view this true story of St. Faustina’s life.
Reminder: Our Lady of Good Counsel Mass will be televised on Salt + Light TV on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at 11:00 (EDT). Please check the local television schedule for the exact time the mass will be shown.
At this time when many members are at home and unable to attend mass in church, sisters in the League can join as one spiritual body to celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Good Counsel! Please have this announcement or something similar posted in your parish bulletin for all parishioners to see and join members in celebration.
Living With Christ, July edition: The League purchased an insert inviting everyone to attend the 100th annual national convention of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada and celebration of the centennial anniversary, to be held in Montreal, Quebec. The advertisement will be included in the July edition of Living With Christ. Unfortunately, the national convention has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus. An attempt to amend the advertisement was made; however, the issue had already gone to print. Therefore, the Living With Christ issue will still advertise the convention https://beit-mirkahat.com/. Please share this with members.
Implementation Committee Update: Have you seen Sr. Susan Scott’s Goal 2 update? It can be found on the national website, cwl.ca, under Implementation of the Strategic Plan. Encourage councils to keep informed on the updates posted monthly by the implementation committee. Let us encourage members to be informed and excited about the future changes that are coming.
League Magazine: Have you received the spring issue of The Canadian League magazine? Take time to read and educate yourself on the journey the League has travelled over the past 100 years. Celebrate the growth of the League and look forward to the upcoming changes to make it better for all members to participate in and enjoy! Appreciate and affirm those who have gone before us and celebrate the changes coming with the help of the implementation committee. Congratulations to everyone as the League remains relevant after 100 years thanks to members. Without members, the League would not be alive and strong across the country.
Communication: Stay in touch with members of your councils. Currently, there is a need for communication leaders to reach out to members, not only with words but through actions. If you know of someone near or far who may need a telephone call, a text, or an e-mail to touch base, show them members are women of joy reaching out to as many people as possible with a friendly greeting.
God Bless you and may Our Lady of Good Counsel guide us as we work together to be the best communication team for and about the League.
Love and prayers,
National Chairperson of Communications
