Communique #1 – Organization
National President-Elect and Chairperson of Organization Shari Guinta, August 26, 2021.
I am thrilled to be corresponding through my initial communique to all those responsible for organization within the League.
Organization has the particular responsibility of membership. The past year has been difficult for parish councils to collect membership, primarily because of COVID-19 and issues the pandemic brought with it. Members could not just drop their membership fees into the collection basket!
I ask you all to encourage your diocesan counterparts to work on membership and they, in turn, to encourage parish councils. Start a concerted effort to bring members back and even get new members. Most areas across Canada are back at church, and there is always e-mail and the telephone call that does much by letting members know you care.
Ask your diocesan counterparts to encourage parish councils to:
- contact members who have not remitted their membership fee.
- submit any per capita fees that have been collected.
- plan now to have meetings and information sessions for members.
Get in touch with your diocesan counterparts to offer League development and strategic planning workshops and updates and encourage them to do the same.
The national website has monthly updates and new items on it, particularly regarding initiatives of the implementation committee and its working groups. These women have been working incredibly hard to bring new resources to the League for use at all levels.
Have you seen The League of The Future-Year 3? The presentation at the national annual meeting of members in August was recorded and is available on the national website. It covers a review of Year 2 and progress made from the following working groups:
- create a smartphone app
- effective communication
- government collaboration
- principles of Catholic social teaching
- training & development
- using technology
Please look, watch and keep in touch!
