CWL Plans Strategically Update
On November 13th and 14th National President Anne-Marie Gorman, Executive Director Kim Scammell, and I as the implementation committee liaison to the national executive met with four members that make up the implementation committee (IC) to begin implementation of the newly adopted strategic plan.
In late October the national administrative committee reviewed applications and supporting documents received for the IC and chose four members to lead the effort. In November the committee met and discerned who would be responsible for each goal and who would take the leadership roles required of the committee. The results are:
• Vice-Chairperson and leader of goal 1: Lisa Henry, North Bay, Ontario.
• Secretary and leader of goal 2: Sr. Susan Scott, Stony Plain, Alberta.
• Leader of goal 3: Jacqueline Nogier, Snow Lake, Manitoba.
• Chairperson and leader of goal 4: Sharon Cieben, Coquitlam, British Columbia.
Anne-Marie and Kim serve in an ex-officio capacity.
The committee brainstormed and agreed upon the key measures for 17 objectives. These measures were presented to the national executive on November 15th for review and approval. The IC was advised it could move forward by preparing an initial strategy map, including timelines (start and end dates) for each objective/critical issue. They will also identify key risks of implementation and how to overcome them, and prepare a high-level overview of capital, operating, staff and volunteer resources required to achieve the strategy.
The strategy map will be brought to the national executive for approval at the winter meeting in February 2019. Upon approval, the year one working groups will be struck and charged to create detailed action plans for each strategy. The action plans will be submitted to the IC in June 2019 for approval and then the work will begin.
Please talk about the strategic plans at every opportunity to ensure members are current and enthusiastic with the progress as the League continues the move forward. Provincial presidents have been asked to let me know the number of planning strategically sessions that have taken place before the winter meeting in February.
Council reports are due January 15, 2019 if submitted online and December 15, 2018 if completed on paper. Please encourage use of the online method. In 2017, 716 councils used the online reporting method. With over 1,200 councils this number needs to be increased.
Effective 2019 the fee for life membership application will be $200.00. The current fee of $100.00 has not changed since the award was first created in 1920! Applications received by December 15, 2018 are not affected.

Attached is a document from national office “Communicating via Communiques” which is very helpful in writing an effective communique.
As the season of advent approaches our thoughts turn to the journey Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem, to the birth of the Christ Child and how we prepare to welcome the Saviour who is with us always!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
