List of 2016 Provincial Chairpersons of Communications

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.                                                                                    Psalms 19:14

Greetings to all chairpersons of communications and to all those interested in this committee. This is my first communiqué as the new chairperson of the national standing committee on communications.

I have been a member of the national executive for the past four years but as an introduction I will say that I am pleased to have been elected once again to serve the League and its members. I have not been on this committee before and so look forward to learning about it and through it.

The national website and media as well as the issue of pornography fall under the responsibility of this committee. The Pornography Hurts Campaign was initiated at the national level by my predecessor, Fran Lucas. This campaign started in the Hamilton Diocesan Council in the 1990s and has been successful in that council ever since. Councils at all levels should be encouraged to look at the campaign and promote it by using the postcards, posters, billboards, bus ads and other methods to draw attention to this ugly issue. I also encourage you to have speakers to talk about the dangers of pornography and educate members about it.

Councils should be encouraged to promote the League by way of brochures and information pamphlets and members should be encouraged to visit the national website often. I would like to hear from members regarding their use of the website and ideas for improvements.

Please remember to have articles submitted for Be League the online newsletter that has become very popular. There is a new highlight every month and articles should be sent to national office.

Communication is important to human beings. In this “tech” age we are communicating somewhat differently than we have in the past. It seems that every few months there is some new way of contacting each other and getting information. We need to stay relevant and be informed as well.

The single biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place.
