Tax on Currency Exchange Transactions

Whereas, On March 23, 1999, a motion was passed in the House of Commons "That, in the opinion of this House, the government should enact a tax on financial transactions in concert with the world community"; and
Whereas, A currency exchange transaction tax would be effective only with global cooperation; and
Whereas, Income earned from a currency exchange transaction tax could be used to benefit poorer countries by improving living conditions, funding environmental cleanup and promoting social justice; therefore, be it
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada, in 82nd annual national convention assembled, urge the federal government to actively pursue global support for a currency exchange transaction tax.
