Teen Suicide: Prevention/Awareness
Whereas, Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teens, and
Whereas, Teen suicide may be prevented by increased awareness and effective intervention programs, therefore be it
Resolved, That the national council of The Catholic Women's League of Canada in 80th annual national convention assembled,
- urge the federal government to provide funding to assist provincial/territorial governments in addressing the problem of teen suicide;
- request the provincial councils to urge provincial/territorial ministers of health and education provide resources to develop and implement effective programs to address the serious problem of teen suicide;
- urge councils to promote awareness programs on the prevention of teen suicide.
Detailed Action Plan
- Write the federal minister of health requesting funding to address the problem of teen suicide.
- Urge provincial/territorial ministers of health to implement effective programs to address the serious problem of teen suicide.
- Through knowledgeable speakers, urge councils to promote awareness programs in the prevention of teen suicide.
- Investigate the availability of suicide prevention and crisis
intervention agencies, intervention programs and trained personnel
and promote the support of same.
