Community Conversations on Cancer Control
An e-mail from Tamara Stevenson-Grant re: community conversations on cancer control is available for members on request from executiveassistant@cwl.ca. This is an opportunity for members to be involved at the grassroots level to help shape the actions which will be taken by world cancer leaders. This comes at an appropriate time when so many members either have been affected directly or know someone who has/has had cancer.

Helmets
The importance of wearing of helmets for sports is a major story in the news. What are the provincial regulations regarding the use of helmets across Canada? If their use is not mandatory, could this be an issue for a resolution?

Health Canada to test taps for cancer contaminants
The federal government is looking for a contractor to determine if contaminants believed to raise the risk of cancer come from drinking water taps. Visit www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2009/03/17/water-cancer-tests.html for more information.

Memo for parish mailing
Available from executiveassistant@cwl.ca is the education and health memo included in the spring parish mailing. The focus of the memo is the need for treatment of obstetric fistula in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. An article from the New York Times on the treatment of obstetric fistula in Tanzania , “After a Devastating Birth injury, Hope”can be viewed at  http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/24/health/24hospital.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print

Please continue to encourage the use of the activities kit for the CWL Day of Peace and Hope and encourage feedback.
