2007 Annual Report of
Saskatchewan Provincial Council
Yvonne Colleaux, Provincial President

The provincial council, only a few months away from the end of the theme Love One Another, recognized its continued importance in living this theme. Love for one another needs to permeate members' entire lives. The Saskatoon Diocesan Eucharistic Congress with its theme Bread of Love, Life for All reinforced this message. The Congress was well attended and was excellent preparation for the 49th International Eucharistic Congress.

The provincial president made two presentations on the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations (WUCWO) to parish councils in Saskatoon. Raising awareness of its work helped broaden members' vision of women's struggles around the world.

At the provincial convention, the first Social Justice Award of $1,000 was presented to Sarah Dauk of Saskatoon. She spent the summer in Toronto as an intern in the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace youth program. She wrote that when she began her work she ?was struck with the realization of the extreme urgency in which the fight for justice and solidarity must be fought. It must be fought actively by each of us in our own life.?

St. Anne Parish Council in Regina saw its resolution on hospice palliative care adopted at the national convention as Resolution 2007.03 Hospice Palliative Care: An Integral Component of the Canadian Health Care System.

A provincial executive meeting and workshop was held in the fall. Honorary Life Member Claire Heron gave a presentation on WUCWO and reported that it had gained consultative status at the United Nations. The annual World Day of Prayer was an opportunity for members to relate to women from different countries as they took turns preparing the ecumenical service.

National Chairperson of Community Life Dr. Rayleen De Luca facilitated a workshop on various aspects of that standing committee with special emphasis on environmental issues.

The president attended provincial council's 80th anniversary. Anniversaries of parish and diocesan councils throughout the year were either attended by an executive member or a life member.
